History
Mount Kisco Day Care Center is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian child care organization licensed for operation by the NYS Office of Children and Families Services. It was established in 1971 after a study by the Interfaith Council of Westchester determined a need for such a program in the area. With the backing of the Junior League of Northern Westchester, The Center opened its doors to 25 three and four old children.
Today, 35 years later, the Center cares for 139 children, ages three months to twelve years of age.
Facilities
After building a legendary foundation for outstanding childcare...we now have a modern, state-of-the-art facility in which to house it! Our remarkable Intergenerational Facility at Radio Circle in Mount Kisco opens its doors each day to a whole new world for our children! All thanks to the generosity of so many caring contributors in our community.
Thanks to collaboration with Family Services of Westchester, our children share parts of their day with seniors from neighboring communities... fostering a truly nurturing environment in which some of the key relationships of childhood are recreated. This wonderful experience marks only the beginning of the many advantages our modern facility provides.
With over 20,000 square feet of living space, our Intergenerational Facility features growth and learning opportunities that many area child care providers only dream of. Here, in a cozy setting that mirrors the warmth and security of home...we provide the kind of nurturing, sensitive care for your child from the start of each day to the moment you pick him or her up. That includes space for 139 children ages 3 months to 12 years along with 50 seniors - all under one beautiful roof!
And what an experience lies ahead for those who enter its doors. Highlights include a comprehensive infant care program...over 7,500 square feet of outdoor play space, perfect for everything from picnics to gardening...plus an expanded after-school program...exciting literacy and science activities...and an intergenerational curriculum featuring everything from baking and reading to arts and crafts.
Mission
Our mission is to provide high quality affordable childcare to a diverse group of children in a safe, healthy and developmentally appropriate environment. The goal of the Center is to promote each child's intellectual, physical, emotional and social development with an emphasis on enhancing his/her feelings of self-esteem. We are committed to ensuring the ethnic, social and cultural diversity of the student body, based on the belief that this policy is beneficial to all children and has long-term benefits for the community as a whole.
Organization Description
The Board of Directors, the policy making body and fiduciary agent of the Center, is responsible for decisions on matters of admission and tuition, budget and finance, fundraising, publicity, long range planning, personnel (hiring of the Director) and scholarship assistance for families. The Board consists of volunteer local community leaders and members, educators and professionals as well as parents of the Center. The Board meets eleven times a year, including an Annual Meeting which is open to all interested parents and friends. The Annual Meeting is held every February.
Funding Sources
The Center relies on several sources of funding: tuition, governmental fees and grants, United Way, and community contributions. The Center is a not-for-profit agency and tuition and fees do not cover the costs of operation. A continuous effort is necessary to close the gap between income and expenses. A Letter of Appeal by mail is an annual activity of the Board of Directors. In addition, there are regular on-going efforts to obtain funds through grants and governmental agencies. Other events are organized and conducted by parents and staff has been successful in providing additional funds for an enriched Programming. How to help us.
