Preschool and School Age
Our preschool children play hard while at the same time acquiring the skills necessary to prepare for their kindergarten years. The teachers provide a variety of hands-on experiences through creative art, science discoveries, active play, language activities, math, field trips and special visitors. We hope to make learning a fun experience and believe that children learn best when allowed to explore and discover at their own rate of development. The preschoolers are also active participants in the edible education and intergenerational programs throughout the day.
The school age program has two components: a before-school program for working parents where children are transported by bus to the local elementary schools and an after-school program for children that are dropped off in the afternoon. This program is critical for working parent’s full day schedule. The staff recognize the importance of providing a relaxed environment for children after a long structured day but also try to support parents by allowing time for children to complete their homework. They are also busy with the gardens and the seniors particularly in the summer months and vacation weeks when they have more time.
